Designing your Website Homepage for Success with Lawson House

Your website homepage is the digital front door to your business, often serving as the first point of contact for potential customers. In an era where online attention spans are shorter than ever, making a strong first impression is crucial. Within seconds, visitors decide whether to stay and explore or move on to another site.

Unfortunately, many websites fail to capture and hold attention, leading to high bounce rates and lost opportunities. This is where the importance of a well-crafted homepage comes into play. A thoughtfully designed homepage not only grabs attention but also converts casual visitors into engaged customers.

We’re sharing with you our Homepage Blueprint – so you can turn passive scrollers into raving fans and generate more sales – from your homepage alone. Whether you’re revamping an existing site or starting from scratch, this blueprint will equip you with the essential components needed for a homepage that not only looks great but also functions as an effective sales and marketing asset.

The Homepage Blueprint

There are 7 components of an effective homepage – here’s exactly what you need to include for your page to be as successful as possible.

1. Your Website Header

The header is the first thing visitors see when they land on your site, so it needs to be clear and engaging. Here’s what it should include…

  • Logo: Your logo should be prominently displayed in the header. It establishes your brand identity and builds recognition.
  • Navigation Bar: A well-organized navigation bar helps visitors find the information they’re looking for quickly. Include links to your main pages such as Home, About, Services, Portfolio, Blog, and Contact.
  • Tagline/Mission: A succinct tagline or mission statement should be included to immediately communicate what your business is about. This helps visitors understand your value proposition at a glance.

2. Services Section

This section should outline the core services or products your business offers. Use brief, descriptive text along with images or icons to make it visually appealing. Each service can link to a dedicated page for more detailed information.

3. About Section

The about section is where you tell your story. Share the history of your business, your mission, values, and what sets you apart from the competition. Personalize it with photos of your team and workplace to create a connection with your audience.

4. Portfolio & Reviews

Showcasing your work and customer testimonials builds credibility and trust.

  • Portfolio: Display examples of your best work. If you’re a designer, include images of your projects; if you’re a consultant, highlight case studies or success stories.
  • Reviews: Include quotes from satisfied customers. Positive reviews and testimonials can significantly influence potential clients’ decisions.

5. Newsletter Signup & Freebie

Offering a freebie or newsletter signup encourages visitors to provide their contact information, helping you build your email list.

  • Freebie: This could be a downloadable guide, a discount code, or access to exclusive content. Make sure it’s valuable and relevant to your audience.
  • Newsletter Signup: A simple form where visitors can enter their email addresses to receive updates, news, and special offers from your business.

6. Your Final Call to Action (CTA)

A strong CTA guides visitors toward taking the next step, whether it’s contacting you, making a purchase, or signing up for a service.

  • Placement: Include CTAs throughout your homepage, but make sure the primary CTA is prominently placed above the fold.
  • Clarity: Use clear, action-oriented language like “Get Started,” “Contact Us,” or “Sign Up Now.”

7. Footer

The footer is an important, yet often overlooked, part of your homepage. It typically includes:

  • Contact Information: Make it easy for visitors to get in touch with you by including your phone number, email address, and physical address.
  • Additional Links: Include links to your privacy policy, terms of service, and other important pages.
  • Social Media Links: Link to your social media profiles so visitors can follow you on different platforms.
